End of road for Philly cell phone warnings - The ban, thought to be the most comprehensive in the country, also applies to people on bikes, roller skates, and pretty much anything that moves.

State College eyes tuition tax - Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl presented the tax last month as a way to fill a $15 million budget gap. The legality of the tax would most likely be determined by the courts.

City quietly makes plans to offer tax amnesty - Philadelphia - in an effort to get some of the nearly $1 billion owed by tax deadbeats - will likely offer an amnesty next spring, Revenue Commissioner Keith Richardson said today.

Agencies muster to prevent stimulus fraud - Eighty to 100 representatives of agencies with investigative powers in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and elsewhere will gather tomorrow at the U.S. Attorney's Office in Philadelphia to begin working together on preventing and prosecuting potential fraud in the federal stimulus program.

Toll Bros. reports $111.4 million fourth-quarter loss - Pretax write-downs and early debt retirement increased Toll Bros. Inc.'s fourth-quarter losses to $111.4 million, or 68 cents a share, the Horsham luxury-home builder said today.

DeMint Blocks Bernanke for Vote on Audit the Fed - According to DeMint, "Mr. Bernanke has been one of the chief proponents of the Fed's easy money policy that created the current financial crisis. He ignored asset bubbles, dismissed concerns about the weakness of the dollar, and helped encourage the credit mania that led to the financial panic.

UK University to probe integrity of climate data - A British university said Thursday it would investigate whether scientists at its prestigious Climatic Research Unit fudged data on global warming. Phil Jones, the director of the unit, stepped down Tuesday pending the result of the investigation.

Pakistan: We need more clarity on US plan - Pakistan's prime minister on Thursday defended his country's efforts in fighting terrorism, saying he didn't believe Osama bin Laden was in Pakistan and that Pakistani security forces had been successful in tackling terrorism within the country's borders.

US envoy: NATO to send more forces to Afghanistan - U.S. special envoy Richard C. Holbrooke acknowledged Thursday that the war in Afghanistan is unpopular, given "the legacy of Iraq and Vietnam," but he predicted that NATO allies will soon contribute more forces to join the 30,000 additional U.S. troops being deployed there.
