TFP's Upcoming Events 2012

Survive and Thrive's 2012 Essential overview will be a distilled culmination of our best efforts over the last three years. This year we will greatly serve the those with functional instincts for self preservation and guardianship of loved ones. Bring friends and family.

Come out and meet fellow libertarians in Montgomery County, PA. This is a co-meeting with the Valley Forge Revolutionaries.

Please come share your evening with us liberty lovers. Live music, food, drinks, good company, and (here's the most exciting part) we will be celebrating Mike Salvi's 34th birthday! A voter registration will also be taking place.

If you're not yet familiar with Mark Passio's work, you can get a glimpse over at www.whatonearthishappening.com. What on Earth is Happening is broadcast live every Sunday from 5pm - 7pm est.

Pot luck dinner, food drive, voter registration, group meet-n-greet, signature gathering for delegates, podcast recording, and overall good time! Join us for a casual and informal networking social. Come prepared with your ideas, suggestions, and an open mind. Come let loose, and have fun!

Come on out to TFP's monthly documentary screening and discussion. It happens on the last Wednesday of every month at Media Bureau Studios.

What is nullification? How does it happen and work? Since September 2010, the Tenth Amendment Center has been hosting a national tour to educate and activate people on this topics. People are learning the constitutional basis, when it's been used in history, and how it's happening around the country and how YOU can stop DC right in your own state.

Some Sort of Balance

Before you write this off as shiny happy hippy shit, which is tough to argue against, consider how much negativity surrounds us. While that's completely out of your control, what's in your control is, not only how much negative information you allow to occupy your mind, but how long you allow it to stay there, and what you do with it.

Here's a feeble attempt to inject proactive postive actions into your daily life, in a stop and smell the roses kind of way. I think it's safe to say business as usual for the world as a whole is all but totally shot to shit.

With that in mind, I'll always remember strong words of advice from an old taekwondo friend who had a unique way of looking on the brightside..."hey it could be worse...you could also have gonorreah."

While searching for "positive news" I found these articles, enjoy....

7 Ways to Have More by Owning Less
Here are seven services that help lighten your economic load and generally liberate you from the shackles of stuff through the power of sharing.

7 Practices to Cultivate Compassion
You can frame your day properly, in an attitude of trying to practice compassion and develop it within yourself. And with practice, you can begin to do it throughout the day, and throughout your lifetime.

How to Transform Negative Emotions
Instead of allowing emotions to move through and out of us, we often feed them with negative thoughts and end up giving them long-term residence. In short order, the guests take over the house, leaving us reeling and unable to truly be in control.

25 Reasons to Embrace Criticism
We can’t control what other people will say to us, whether they’ll approve or form opinions and share them. But we can control how we internalize it, respond to it, and learn from it, and when we release it and move on. “Criticism is something you can easily avoid by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing.” ~Aristotle

TFP's Upcoming Events - Fall '11

Someday you may find yourself in a life or death medical situation. You or a loved one may need IMMEDIATE help in dealing with a severe trauma wound or shut down of body functions. Perhaps 911 is too far away, perhaps they cannot be relied on at all. With this engaging skillshare we are fortunate to have one of our founding members - Barb , a critical care R.N. on hand to teach us some important basics for getting a grip on a bad situation.

"How Weed Won the West" delves deeply into the culture and commerce of cannabis featuring California's ganja growers, medicinal marijuana patients and law reform advocates. Kevin Booth's vivid document from behind the front lines of the "war on pot" blows the lid off a multi-billion dollar industry on the verge.

ROC Philly and Bangarang are proud to announce the Inaugural Bangaroc City Festival (Labor Day Weekend). Instead of bringing the Desert to you, we’re doing the next best thing, which is bringing you to an Oasis! This 3 day, 2 night, outdoor music driven experience is the perfect way to end the summer.

Survive and Thrive Weekend Skillshares is tailored for those that have been to them in the past as well as for newcomers. We will cover a broad scope of basics in self reliant bush craft. Water, Shelter, Fire, Food, Medicine, Orienteering and Ropes & Knots will all be covered over Friday night 9/9/11, Saturday 9/10/11 and Sunday morning 9/11/11. Rain or shine, we will be ready for both.
(NYC)
Our friends in New York City, who've given an immeasurable amount of support to TFP, via FEDSTOCK and other events, are hosting LibertyFest II this September. Speakers, live music, vendors, and an overall day of fun.

Mark your calendars for “Laozi,” our second Agora I/O unconference, September 23-25, 2011. We’re expecting more than 100 speakers over at least 4 channels. If you loved the first one (and I know you did!) then this one is going to blow you away!

Save the date...Philly's never let you down when it comes to END THE FED rallies, so why start now? This time it's on a weekday to stand in solidarity with the rest of the nation. On 11/22/11, thousands will rally at every Federal Reserve Bank in the country, and we're happy to join. As always, this will be a peaceful outreach, and I personally guarantee it'll be the most fun you've ever had at an economics rally. Details to come, for now stay tuned, save the date and invite everyone you know!

Stop the Drug War (DRCNet) is an international organization working for an end to drug prohibition worldwide and for interim policy reform in US drug laws and criminal justice system. Read more about DRCNet.

Founded on March 16, 2002, LEAP is made up of current and former members of law enforcement who believe the existing drug policies have failed in their intended goals of addressing the problems of crime, drug abuse, addiction, juvenile drug use, stopping the flow of illegal drugs into this country and the internal sale and use of illegal drugs. By fighting a war on drugs the government has increased the problems of society and made them far worse. A system of regulation rather than prohibition is a less harmful, more ethical and a more effective public policy.

The mission of LEAP is to reduce the multitude of unintended harmful consequences resulting from fighting the war on drugs and to lessen the incidence of death, disease, crime, and addiction by ultimately ending drug prohibition.

LEAP's goals are:

  1. To educate the public, the media, and policy makers, to the failure of current drug policy by presenting a true picture of the history, causes and effects of drug abuse and the crimes related to drug prohibition and
  2. To restore the public's respect for law enforcement, which has been greatly diminished by its involvement in imposing drug prohibition.

LEAP's main strategy for accomplishing these goals is to create a constantly enlarging speakers bureau staffed with knowledgeable and articulate former drug-warriors who describe the impact of current drug policies on: police/community relations; the safety of law enforcement officers and suspects; police corruption and misconduct; and the financial and human costs associated with current drug policies.
